Contemporary still life - Fruit and Vegetable Portraits

The kitchen garden combines observations, growing, drawing and cooking. As each month passes I choose a fruit, vegetable or herb to look at, smell, draw, paint and have on my kitchen table.

With these still lives, I aim to develop a narrative of something else going on instead of the mere depiction of the selected fruits or vegetables. Each fruit and vegetable has its own unique characteristics and personality.

Using a fresco type approach each piece is  layered with colour, detailed and abstract brushstrokes, to take on a specific narrative creating an undercurrent within the image.
