Cat Croxford

My paintings are inspired by real places.

I have always adored adventuring into the woods, ancient habitats with natural hideouts, dark places of discovery, dappled dancing lights, whole worlds of textures and life in tree trunks, pathways of timelessness, filled with lore and nature

The forests and trees hold the same allure and invitation, I am still discovering memories, capturing moments, but layering with a fuller understanding of the complex network of trees and fungus that create a living breathing time-rich space.  With each season the stories change as the light and colours evolve and we witness nature moving through its eternal circle.

Gardens inspire my floral botanicals, from National Trust properties to Monet's garden in Giverny; from friends' private gardens to beds of flowers in towns and cities.  I am attracted to the colour and shapes that I can create with gestural brushmarks and fine pigments.
